Step‑by‑step: Import rides, measure loss, and train your personalized model

1) Import your Garmin rides

  1. Open the Garmin Connect app on your phone.
  2. Tap More (bottom‑right) → Activities.
  3. Select the ride you want to import.
  4. Tap the share icon (📤) and choose Fluid‑Loss Companion if shown, or copy the activity URL and paste it into the app’s Import screen.

2) Add your measured fluid loss

  1. After the activity is parsed, enter your measured fluid loss in milliliters (mL).
  2. Tap Save. The activity and fluid‑loss value are stored on your device for training later.

3) Train your personal model

  • You’ll need about 10+ rides with measured fluid loss to build a solid first model.
  • When enough data is available, the app will show Train Cloud Model.
  • Tap to train; the model is built on the server and used for future predictions.
  • In Settings, choose model behavior: Always Generic, Always Personalized, or Auto (recommended).

Prediction vs. Training

  • Prediction (during ride): Pick your Garmin bike computer, start tracking, and the app calls the cloud predict endpoint every ~2 minutes. Estimates are shown in the app and on your head unit.
  • Training (between rides): Import rides, add measured fluid loss, then tap Train Cloud Model when eligible.

Tips for best accuracy

  • Include activities across different intensities, durations, and weather conditions.
  • Measure fluid loss consistently with the same method each time.
  • If sharing links, ensure Garmin ride privacy allows access.
